Report Rain, rain, rain and more to come, the farmers luv it and so do the fish. The lakes are risinng rapidly all the creeks and rivers are getting a good flush and when it all settles the fishing should be the best it has been in years. Hume has been quiet of late but the weather has a lot to do with it,those that persist are still getting a few redfin and a few trout, also heard of a few yellas being caught over the new ground, hume is at 55% and rising quickly and at this rate could be full by the end of the month.Further away up at Dartmouth the fishing has improved out of sight, most anglers are getting a few fish which is great to see 35ft seems to be the favourite depth on the downriggers. Over at Mulwala the fishing in a word TOUGH,the water is dirty and cold and you will catch fish but you have to put in the work,a lot of work.Cod season is now closed till Dec 1 and the river below Yarrawonga to the Tocumwal road bridge is totally closed to fishing. On the other hand trout season is about to open in our rivers and streams but don't be a goose check the rules and regs for the place you intend to fish. For me its yella fishin time and I will try and keep the reports more regular good fishing to you all cheers Dave

Report Lake Hume seems to be the place to catch a feed at present, redfin, yellas and some very big trout have been taken lately and some anglers are getting some very nice bags of fish, trolling and drifting with icejigs , mask vibes or bait semm to be the most successful methods its just a matter of locating the fish, groups of boats in certain areas are a dead giveaway.Further away at Dartmouth some very nice bags of trout are being taken on attractors with bait or lures behind them but you need to get them down around the 10 to 15 metre mark to get amongst the action.Over at Mulwala the water is a bit dirty after the welcome rains if you work hard you should get a cod or two and I have heard a few reports of yellas being caught on lures and bait. The Murray river has been low and dirty and I have not heard of too many reports but if you throw out a bunch of worms you are sure to catch something.Up in the hills Khancoban has been a bit slow but those in the know are getting a few fish,Eucumbene if you like the cold has been fishing well for rainbows both from the bank and in a boat but the recent cold spell may slow it down. You will see the new flyers for this year Yamaha Lake Hume Fishing Classic out and about in the next week or so if you want an entry form email me and I will get one to you.Spring is almost here so the reports should be more regular and if you catch a big one send in the photo and I will post it on the catch of the week cheers Dave

Report The fishing in Lake Hume is still going well, redfin are being caught on lures and bait you lust need to locate the schools also have heard reports of a few yellas being trolled up while searching for redfin.Trout are moving in the lake, best fish I have heard of is 78cm a big 8lb buck, but I have seen a picture of a 7.5lb buck brown that was caught last sunday on a hotlips lure.Up the road at Dartmouth I heard the dart cup went well, well done to the organisers, don't know the details but from reports quite a few fish were caught. Across at Mulwala in a word, tough, the fish have been hard to get but those who work hard will get results. Cray season is in full swing and there are a lot being caught, make sure you know the rules as fisheries will not entertain an excuse.Local rivers and streams are quiet mainly due to most being closed as they are trout waters check the rules before venturing out or it could turn into a very expensive day, hope you catch a big one cheers Dave

Report Lake Hume is still fishing ok for redfin, yabbies, worms, cocktail prawns and jaggers are all catching fish, trout are starting to be caught and as the cold weather progresses it could well be a great trout season on hume.Up at dartmouth the lake has been fishing well with trout from 500gm up to a kilo with the odd bigger one thrown in, with the Dart cup only a few weeks away things up that way are looking very promising. Over at Mulwala with the cold weather moving in things will slow down a bit on the cod scene but their are a few nice crays being caught so be versatile and have a crack at both options. Further away at Eildon trout and redfin are the main catch,Eucumbene is fishing well for trout, mainly rainbows. The rivers and streams are low at the moment and in need of some good rains for a flush out and things will improve once this happens cheers Dave

Report Since my last report much has changed around the traps with plenty of fish being caught. Lake Hume continues to produce plenty of redfin, small yabbies,shrimp/worm cocktail, jags, icejigs and vibe jackalls all getting fish, also heard a few reports that trolling is still producing yellas, below in the river down to Mulwala cod are being caught on bait and spinnerbaits, at Lake Mulwala the water clarity has improved out of site and cod and yellas are attacking spinnerbaits and bait with plenty of aggression, I have heard that plenty of cod over a metre have been caught so do the right thing and take a photo and return them to the water as cod of this size are terrible on the plate. For the trout fisho's Dartmouth is slowly improving but a downrigger is a must up there get your offerings down to 10 to 20metres otherwise it will be a long day on the water for zip. In the Mitta and Kiewa rivers the fishing is not fast and furious but if you strike a day the hatch is on dust of the fly rod and you should get amongst a few, also hoppers and crickets are about in big numbers so catch a few and float them through the runs and pools and you will get a response from a hungry trout.Further afield Eucumbene is fishing well, Jindabyne also and Eildon also is producing plenty of fish, if travelling to a destination call in to the local tackle outlet and get the right info to put you onto a few fish cheers Dave

Report Well its been a while since my last report but things have been busy. Out in the lake the reddies have been ravenous, you still have to work to find them but when you do and they are on the bite they will take anything, bait, lure, softplastic, jackalls are all taking fish you just need to locate the schools with the big fish in them, below in the river yellas, cod are being caught on a regular basis, yabbies, small hardbodies and spinnerbaits seem to work best.Further afield, Dartmouth in the lake has been quiet but trout in the pondage and the mitta have been caught on fly, bait and small bladed lures,Mulwala cod ,yellas and redfin have been caught on bait ,lures ,cast and trolled but you have to work hard to get the results, below mulwala in the river all methods are working if you can get past the trout cod and the river above to Albury good fish have been caught around the Howlong area. When out on the water in Victoria do not forget its law to wear a lifejacket in boats less than 4.8mts,if the lake cuts up ruff don't be a hero put a jacket on till next time cheers Dave

Report Well the fisihng around the area has been like the weather,up and down.Lake Hume has been still fishing well for redfin when the school is located stick at it and the rewards will come, small yabbies and worms seem to be the flavour at the moment, when fishing for redfin you may get a yella amongst them, yellas are still being caught on the troll and trout have been caught while targeting yellas so those who put in the time will be rewarded. In the river below yellas have been caught on lures and bait also I have heard a few trout cod being caught which is very encouraging, these protected species were once thought non existant in this area but I have seen a few pics and they are definately around, great to see our natives making a comeback.Further afield at Dartmouth trolling fenders at 10 to 15 metres with bait or lure are getting nice trout to 1.5kg,you may get some surface action in low light hours but as soon as the sun hits the water get those rigs down.Down the road at Mulwala anglers are working hard for cod and yellas,if you put in the effort you will get fish but poor water clarity and a yo-yo barometer is making it tough.I ask all anglers be very vigilant when out fishing as our native fish are the target of Black Marketeers, these parasites work mainly at night with gill nets and can wipe out a section of river overnight.if you see anyone acting suspicous dob them in on 133474 for vic and nsw on 1800043536,leave boat or car rego details or even take pics as evidence dont touch the equipment or you may get busted, help rid our waterways of these parasites. On a happier note I would like to wish all a merry xmas and a happy and safe new year also thanks for your support of our classic, good fishing to all in 2010 cheers Dave

Report Gday All been a bit slack on the reports but very busy with other things.Lake Hume is still fishing well with plenty of yellas and redfin being trolled up and also on bait, the occassional trout is still being caught while targeting other species and there have been some thumpers up to 9lb,you may even encounter a murray cod while trolling and with the season underway now make sure you know the size and bag limits.Below the dam the river has been fishing very well from the reports I have heard some nice yellas from 1kg up to 5 kg are the norm and the fish are taking baits as well as lures.Dartmouth has been fishing ok downriggers to 15mts with fenders and worms or a lure seems to work well fish average size is around 1kg.Mulwala is fishing a bit on the tough side mainly due to weather fluctuations and poor water clarity but persist and you will get fish, myself and a mate managed 4 cod,2 yellas and 2 bust off's on opening day, just heard that the coc classic had over 3000 attend well done to the organisers.Heading North I hear Eucumbene is fishing very well with rainbows to 2kg and browns to 3kg being caught.Over at Blowering there is some exciting fishing going on with Murray cod up to 1.5metres being trolled up at night along with the yellas and redfin that have been going off this lake seems to be the hotspot at this point in time.To all heading out for a fish remember the boating rules and fishing regs as to where you are and most of all have a great day

Report Well the fishing in Lake Hume has been hit and miss with the great rain we have had over the last few weeks, recently although conditions have been wet and windy those having a go have been rewarded this week with some lovely trout in the 6 to 8 lb range being trolled up,there have also been a few yellas caught in the lake and below in the river, with the forcast of warmer days next week the action should really fire up and with the lake still rising the yella sessions should get hotter than the weather so if you get a chance midweek should be the best time, once they come on the bite it should last for weeks or even longer if we keep getting inflows into the lake.Dont forget to get your entries in the Early Bird draw ,only 2 weeks left for this category, if you are fishing the classic this year will be a cracker with hundreds of prizes up for grabs see you there,Finally todays fishing column in the border mail mentioned our comp incorrectly it is definitely on the 7th & 8th of November cheers Dave

Report After a month of wild and wet weather things should start to improve as far as fishing goes.Lake Hume has been hit and miss of late as the weather will dictate whether you give it a go or not, those who venture out may get a trout or a few redfin but dont be surpised if a yella turns up while targeting something else, have heard a few yellas are being caught on bait and trolling so with the warmer weather upon us things will pick up on that front.Further afield at Dartmouth anglers are working hard for trout but like hume the weather has had a big say in whether you can venture out, both these lake can turn deadly in minutes so be well prepared .Down the road at Mulwala anglers targeting yellas are being pestered by cod,as it warms up a bit more the yellas should start moving around the lake and you should get on to a few.Blowering I have heard that the yellas are in the shallows, its a day to day thing some days they will bite and others its back to Lake Disappointment but if you pick the right day you will have a ball.Have heard trout at Jindabyne and Eucumbene have been on the go and Khancoban has been a bit slow till next time cheers Dave

Report Now that cod season is closed many anglers attention will now turn to golden perch, trout and redfin and at lake hume all these species are being caught, trout are being taken on tassie style lures and 60mm hb's that get down to 3 or so metres, redfin can be caught using worms or smelt pattern soft plastics and ice jigs, dont be afraid to troll either as a bigger lure may get the bigger fish in the school and of course now is yella time,I have heard reports of a few yellas being caught while targeting other species and with the warmer weather these hume thumpers will show up in big numbers.Further afield at Dartmouth things have been quiet of late but those in the know are putting a feed together, all the trout rivers and creeks in vic are now open but check your regs for the stream you are fishing.Over at Lake Mulwala cod season is now closed and remember the river below mulwala is totally closed ,no fishing at all,but in the lake the yellas will be moving around and if you can find some weedbeds left you will find some redfin, remember all cod must be released and I am sure if fishing for yellas you will encounter a cod.Up in the hills at Khancoban I have heard that fishing worms under a bubble float have accounted for some very nice fish. Finally around the family lakes such as Lake Sambell at Beechworth and out at Allans Flat dredgehole there have been some nice rainbow trout to 500gms caught on worms and spinning with celtas till next time
cheers Dave

Report With the welcome rain over the past month the fishing has improved greatly.Trout have been the main target in Hume and those persisting have reaped the rewards with fish from 2 to 4kg being the average size with trolling tassie devil style lures being the most popular method, lures with pink in them the most popular.Redfin although a lot a small but if you find a school most anglers are putting a feed together, worms and prawn cocktail, soft plastics and baltic boobbers and icejigs are getting the results and I have heard reports of the odd yellowbelly being caught while targeting other species, great to hear as yella season is only around the corner.Further afield Dartmouth is fishing ok with lures or bait behind an attractor, low light hours seem to be the best times.Mulwala is rising(54%) and cod are responding well to trolled lures most ramps are usable,a lot of fish are undersize so do the right thing, heard a report of fisheries catching a person with gill nets, hope he gets the maximum penalty, when boating here stick to river course as what looks like open water can hide a big tree or stump ready to snap a motor in halve.Khancoban is fishing well with worms or mudeyes under a bubble float and bait from the bank the most popular methods till next time cheers Dave

Report Since my last report things have changed a bit around the area, most noticably we got a bit of rain finally and even manage to beat the monthly average and this month has got off to a good start as well. The runoff from the recent falls has managed to get Lake Hume up to over 13% and Mulwala is steadily rising as well this is good to see and hopefully will continue. Fishing in lake hume has improved with reports of some nice trout being trolled up to 2kg,some anglers are getting fish and some are not but persistance should bring you results, also redfin are being trolled up as well most are small but some anglers are putting a feed together. If you want a bit of fun large shools of small fish are busting the surface feeding on smelt so put on a soft plastic and have some fun you never know whats lurking below the school.Further afield Dartmouth has been fishing ok with those in the know catching some nice fish, atrractors with either a lure or bait have been successful but do not go up there without a downrigger, this piece of gear can be the difference between no fish and a bagful of fish, remember all trout streams are closed at the moment so check your fishing guide books for details.Mulwala has been quiet, mainly because of lack of access for bigger boats and generally the smaller fish go a bit quiet in the colder months, but if you get access as the lake is rising you may tangle with a big green monster. For the cray fishers access is again a problem but those able to get a boat in have been doing ok in the murray and at bundalong, once again check the rules for the area that you fish.Remember to boat safely and rug up in the cold weather till next time cheers Dave

Report Not to much has changed since the last report except the Lake Is now rising 7%.There has been a few reports of fish being caught above(walwa area and up the mitta) and below the lake but not to many have been fishing the lake itself. With the onset of winter many a anglers attention turns to trout and with the stockings of trout in the lake over the last few years this year well may be a cracker, if we get decent rainfall, as these stocked fish will probably be around the 2kg mark by now.Around the traps,Dartmouth has been fishing ok with attractors and either worms or a lure behind, best early and late in the day and dont go up there without a downrigger as the fish feed at various depths during the day.Dart Cup is on this weekend so patience and a bit of courtesy is the key to a good weekend, good luck to all who enter.Mulwala is getting flogged to death, access is starting to get a bit harder for the 2wd vehicles and your best option is at the yacht club boat ramp,I have heard some big numbers of cod have been caught and I hope anglers are limiting there catch and not catching there limit,if you see someone doing the wrong thing dob them in,all it takes is a photo,a rego and ring fisheries, this is Australia's last wild native fishery and poachers are not welcome. If you want a freezer full of fish why not target redfin, the lake is full of them.Lastly lets all pray for a wet winter and hopefully the fishing will imrpove as well

Report Well its been a quiet month on Lake Hume due to low water levels and lack of safe boating water, the river below has been fishing well at times with some nice yella's being caught by those in the know.Thing may improve in the next month or so as the lake is now rising.
Further afield at Dartmouth there have been some good trout being taken from the surface down to 20metres best times are early and late in the day.Downstream at Bundalong/Mulwala the fishing has been hot one day and cold the next, just remember the lake is being drawn down to a very low level and stumps that were not there last trip may be there next time to take out your prop, also only take what you need,if you go down their to fill your eskyies and freezers with native fish you will be the one whinging when next time the lake is drawn down fisheries close the lake and if you see someone doing the wrong thing ring the dob in a poacher line and give them the boat rego/car rego etc, take photo's,we do not want these types on our waterways. Also Crayfish season is under way so check fisheries for the rules and regs in your state cheers Dave

ReportAs the drought still has a strong hold on us as far as the fishing seen goes not to much has changed in the last month or so except for the dwindling lake levels. Those prepared to put in the effort should be rewarded with a fish or two.First cab of the rank is Lake Hume, although it has come down very quickly I have had a few reports of anglers sratching a feed of redfin together and there have been some good yellas caught in the river below. The lake is now a 4 knot zone and there is better and safer fishing only an hours drive away, reports the lake may get to 1% by May is a sad sight for the lake but it can only improve as the irrgation season is well and truly over.Mulwala is the place to get a fish and it astounds me how this place stands up to the pressure it gets, cod ,yellas and redfin, yes redfin up to 3lb are all being caught I just hope there are no freezer fillers taking more than they should. The Lake is being drawn down at the end of this month and will not be closed to boating or fishing, just take a bit of care when navigating the river course.Dartmouth is fishing ok with trout taking lures on the surface early and late and deeper during the day,the browns will be looking to school up in a month or so waiting for the precious rain to signal the spawning run,the mitta and kiewa rivers should fish well as the warmer days should create some big hatches for the flyfishos.Hopefully we will get the much needed rain we need soon and all our rivers and lake get the flush they need .Finally the blue green algae alert, yes it is in Lake Hume and the murray river all the way down to torrumbay weir, this means it will be in every creek, channel ,farmers pumpstation, bit of common sense is don't swim in it,drink it,boil it then drink it as the spors do not die when boiled, leave the dog at home if camping and if you are going to eat fish caught in it wash them with fresh town supply water and you should come home feeling ok
cheers Dave
